Government

Azerzia is a combination parliamentary democracy and federal, constitutional monarchy, as defined in Universal Constitution of Azerzia. The Federal Government of Azerzia is split into three branches.

Executive

The office of Regent of the Realm, currently held by Maxius Rotae, alternates between the heads-of-state of the kingdoms of the nation every ten years and he/she serves a mostly ceremonial role and is the head-of-state. The Prime Minister, currently Marc Crayik, who is the head-of-government and commander-in-chief, and other ministers who form the cabinet are appointed by every new Senate from those most qualified in the nation.

Legislative

The bicameral parliament is made up of the People's Assembly and the Senate. Assembly-people are elected every other year, with half of the seats up for election in every election. The number of seats is set at 100 and based on the percentage of people in each kingdom. Senators serve a five year term. Each state receiving 3 senators, and the Autonomous Integral Territories (AITs) receiving one senator each. The Senate controls the introduction of laws dealing with foreign matters, the Assembly internal and matters which cross over into both areas are able to be introduced by both houses.

Judicial

The High Court of the Realm is the highest court in the nation. It has 7 seats. Each head-of-government of the kingdoms appoints one of the Justices, and the Prime Minister appoints the sixth and seventh. The High Court may make rulings on minor cases, should they reach that far up through the lower courts. The High Court presides over all impeachment hearings, with the exception of those involving Justices. In that case, the High Court of the kingdom where the reigning Regent is from presides over the hearing.

History

Azerzia is a archipelago of 7 major islands. Each island and region there within has a fully independent history. Often times they were at war with one another, attacking over cultural differences and conflicting resources. After many years, modern nations rose. The Bekaln Empire controlled the southern end of Tioltar and all of Arkan and Keshr, the Kingdom of Stegol controlled the Stegaln, the Kingdom of Nymela controlled the island of Nymela, the Kingdom of Reolm controlled the northern end of Tioltar and half of Losel and the Kingdom of Taria controlled Angeln and the other half of Losel. Stegol conquered Nymela but afforded it almost full autonomy and the Arkani revolted and formed a very limited constitutional monarchy referred to as the Arkani Republic. A series of civil wars broke out across Azerzia, with internal struggles exacerbated by pressures from external governments. This eventually led to the defining of borders, with Nierta remaining part of the Bekaln Empire and Lezit becoming fully integrated into it. Invaders came to Azerzia a century later and forced the nations to join forces or be conquered. The islands were conquered however and many of the Azerzians fled. A generation later, the refugees rallied around a Stegolian named Erter Wehned and retook their homeland. The differences between the states had diminished during exile and a loose federation formed. After fifty years, the federation was formalized into the modern Confederated Kingdoms of Azerzia.

Language, culture, and climate=

The government of Azerzia has no official language, however Azerzian is the de facto official language. English is common as a second language for external trade. Each of the Kingdoms and AITs uses a regional dialect of Azerzian (Stegolian for Stegol, Nymelan for Nymela, Arkani for Arkan and Nierta, Beklanish for Bekaln and Lezit, Tarian for Taria, Reolmian for Reolm and Lezit) as their de facto official languages and each dialect is fairly distinct from the other, to greater of lesser degrees based on distance.

The climate of Azerzia ranges wildly, due to conflicting air flows and water currents near the islands. The heart of the archipelago is desert-like and on the outside either is desert like with temperate to tropic conditions. Due to environmentalism and the wide range of climates, Azerzia has been described as having some of the best weather in the world. This also benefits the health of the Azerzian population which is also very high.

Religion used to play a major role in Azerzia but has since fallen out, with many of the population being atheists and agnostics. The old cathedrals of the Church of Gerela still see some use and are tourist attractions. The fascination with old buildings and the arts has caused a high in Azerzian cultural life. Crime is low across Azerzia, which is mirrored by the pacifistic government.
